Let´s pack for a trip with your Toddler

Summer is the perfect time for trips and outings. A backpack of their very own is a great gift for an older toddler or a pre-schooler:  It builds their independence and confidence as they actively participate in preparing for each trip, and then carry their necessities by themselves.

1. Help your child select their items

Would they like to take crackers or biscuits for snack? A pack of tissues? The red water bottle or the blue one?

2. Help your child pack it by themselves

Packing the bag helps your child remember exactly what is inside - and feel much more enthusiastic about carrying it!

3. Be careful about weight

Use only a small water bottle (you can always refill it) and light-weight items. The purpose is your child's empowerment, not tiring them out, and excessive weight can be harmful to their back and posture.

4. Look for a backpack with a front clip

Speaking of back and posture, front-clipping backpacks are helpful as they keep straps from sliding down and the backpack from shifting onto your child's elbows and lower back.

5. Don't forget your sunscreen and hat!

Understanding your child's inner sense of order

Have you ever noticed that your child enjoys singing the same song over and over again, or wants you to repeat the same story for what feels like a million times? A child’s need for external order is present as early as childbirth and peaks in their second year, before fading at about the age of 5. This period of development helps a child to develop a connection between themselves and the world, process information and overcome challenges.

IMSP’s LIDOVÉ NOVINY

Introducing IMSP’s LIDOVÉ NOVINY, a Czech-language newspaper written, edited, and assembled by our Upper Elementary students. This project was inspired by renowned Czech writer Karel Čapek. Čapek, best known for inventing the word „robot“, was beloved for his versatile and multi-genre pieces. Bouncing between modern fairytales, short stories, travel-logs, and biographical work, Čapek also had a particular affinity for the feuilleton, a short newspaper essay designed, not only to inform the reader, but to amuse them as well.

Six Months as an IMSP Toddler

It has always been my priority to bring my kids up to be independent and curious and to treat them as my equal, if somewhat smaller in size; Montessori education therefore held a great appeal when it came to choosing a kindergarten. It has been six months since my daughter, who is just about to turn three, started attending IMSP and it is a joy and a privilege to observe how she thrives and develops.
