A warm welcome to this week’s guest on the IMSP alumni podcast, Laura van Steeg. Spending her early years immersed in Montessori education, Laura went on to study at a secondary school that shares this same educational framework. Speaking with our host Mariana, Laura reveals how her time at IMSP helped ease her transition into a new community. Drawing on her Grace and Courtesy lessons, Laura was ready to take on the world.

Laura in her own words:

Hello, my name is Laura van Steeg and I’m 17 years old. I started going to IMSP when I was in third grade and then I left after the fifth grade to go to Duhovka Gymnazium. I love acting in the theatre and I’ve been a part of the Montessori Model United Nations.

What does Grace and Courtesy look like in practice?

The purpose of the Grace and Courtesy curriculum in Montessori is to offer our children the best possible assistance on this path. Explaining and modeling clearly, we share the most harmonious ways of behaving, relating and communicating, and help children practice and master them. Veronika wanted to be a teacher from her childhood. Despite this she was graduated from Legal Studies at the Charles University. After having her first child, she fell in love with Montessori and her dream job came true. She devoted her career path to being a Primary Montessori teacher.
