Please welcome this week’s guest to the IMSP podcast – Krishna Ramani!

Currently living in Arizona while pursuing his degree in computer science at ASU, he looks back at his time at IMSP as a period of self-discovery. Speaking with our host Mariana, Krishna shares how the freedom to explore his interests at such a young age helped him to grow his independence and confidence. Transferring these skills into a traditional school setting, Krishna is able to thrive while pursuing his passions. Press play to learn more!

Krishna in his own words:

My name is Krishna Ramani, I attended IMSP from Kindergarten to 2nd Grade. Currently, I am a freshman at Arizona State University studying Computer Science. A few of my hobbies are basketball, weight lifting, and coding on the side.

Twenty years ago, IMSP opened its door for the first time. This podcast series follows Mariana Bečková — IMSP alumna and graduate of the program — as she shines a light on her fellow Montessori graduates. Celebrating our 20th anniversary, we are taking time to reflect with students who have been with us along the way. Montessori Sensorial Materials Lead to Sensory Awareness

The materials in the Sensorial area of the Montessori classroom are quite unique – they speak to the tactile observer in all of us. When you consider the way humans take in information, you realize how often we use more than one sense to explore. Veronika wanted to be a teacher from her childhood. Despite this she was graduated from Legal Studies at the Charles University. After having her first child, she fell in love with Montessori and her dream job came true. She devoted her career path to being a Primary Montessori teacher.

There are a few things typical to Montessori classrooms worldwide that might give the casual observer a pause. Picture it: you walk into a beautiful Casa environment, full of children working, many of them on mats rolled out on the floor. The students moving through the room know to step between mats, never on them. Of course, in the beginning of the school year it took many presentations, repetitions and reminders to instill this routine in the students.

Communicating with the Toddler Child

As teachers, we are often asked what special tips or tricks we use to get children to cooperate. Most often parents ask questions like “How can I get my child more interested in dressing and eating by themselves?”or “How can we make the mornings run more smoothly?” It can feel challenging when our patience is tested, but we must remember that children are learning to develop their own will and sense of obedience which is a natural process lasting until around six years of age.
