Who We Are

IMSP School Mission

IMSP is an international school offering authentic Montessori education. Embracing each child's unique potential, we empower our students to achieve academic excellence and become confident, compassionate and engaged citizens of the world.

Our Core Values

Our values serve as a compass for our actions and exemplify how we behave, in IMSP and the world.

  • Living Montessori
  • Consciously Striving for Excellence
  • Thinking Bigger Picture
  • Proactive Ownership

Founded in 2002, the vision of the International Montessori School of Prague was to foster a love of learning and to educate children to be caring, socially responsible citizens of their community and the world. At IMSP you will find a dynamic community of learners, where our diverse group of children, families, faculty and staff are united by the common goal of empowering children to explore, learn and grown.

Rooted in Montessori philosophy and supported by experiential learning, our approach is built on a deep respect for the individuality of each child and a strong belief in their potential. This whole-child, individualized approach to learning, combined with a close-knit community, form the basis for student success.
To achieve our mission, we:

  • Enter into a partnership with parents in the education of their children;
  • Ensure the development of intellectual, social, and emotional capabilities, employing the Montessori method as our teaching foundation;
  • Provide a curriculum adhering to rigorous Montessori standards, while continually improving the curriculum by incorporating components and techniques from a variety of teaching methods;
  • Emphasize integrity, responsibility, compassion, open-mindedness, respect for others, and community leadership as our values;
  • Create a community that encourages discovery, diversity, and achievement;
  • Empower children to actively participate as global citizens in the rapidly changing environment of the twenty-first century;
  • Foster a love of learning and an embracing of curiosity, by encouraging the self-motivation and self-discipline that will lead to a life-long pursuit of knowledge;
  • Spark imagination, wonder, humor and joy in our students;
  • Insist upon continued excellence in teaching.

Located in Prague 4, IMSP takes a uniquely individualized approach to the education of each of our students. We offer an authentic Montessori program in an English immersion setting to students aged fifteen months to twelve years. Children who complete our Early Childhood program excel in our Elementary School. Our graduating students move on to top private schools and gymnáziums, and our students perform exceptionally well as they continue their education. We invite you to visit us and learn more about our community.

ACCREDITATIONS

Fully Accredited by the American Montessori Society (AMS)

The International Montessori School of Prague does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, sexual orientation, family composition, nationality, marital status, ethnic origin, or disability. We base our acceptance upon the appropriateness of the school for each individual student and his/her family.

The doors of IMSP opened in September 2002, serving 16 students aged eighteen months to six years. An immediate success, the school relocated the next year to our current facility in Prague 4.  We also expanded our program, creating an Elementary classroom to bring Montessori to older students. In 2005, we grew again adding a second Primary class to our program. In 2006, our Czech Program – approved by the Czech Ministry of Education – was established.

The 2007 Academic year brought much excitement as we were accredited by the American Montessori Society (AMS).  We also further developed our Elementary program by splitting it into Lower Elementary (ages 6-9) and Upper Elementary (ages 9-12).

Since then, we have continued to grow, adding a second Toddler classroom in 2016. We also raised a building addition, adding in an art room, Multipurpose room for events and a Parent Lounge.

In our 2016-2017 Academic year, we celebrated our 15th Anniversary, prompting us to reflect on our achievements and look forward to our continued growth.

Accreditation is a service provided to full-member schools by the American Montessori Society. It is a voluntary process that takes 1 to 2 years to complete. Accreditation begins with an intensive self-study, by the school, involving the school’s entire community—students, staff, faculty, administration, board members, and parents.

During the application process, every aspect of the school is examined and documented, including governance, curriculum, fiscal and personnel policies, facilities, health and safety practices, teacher preparation, and learner outcomes.

At the end of the self-study period, a thorough onsite peer review is conducted. In addition to determining whether the school meets AMS standards, the review team evaluates the school to see how well it is achieving its own mission and goals—whether the school is what it says it is and does what it says it does. After identifying both strengths and areas to strengthen, the school commits to a strategic plan for improvement which incorporates the recommendations of its peer review team.

All AMS accredited schools must maintain compliance with school accreditation standards and work toward continuous improvement. Each accredited school submits a yearly report outlining progress toward the objectives in its strategic plan.
